Learning piano at Waterdown Music Academy has been very rewarding. My teacher progresses me through the material at my pace and always has time for my questions. They're very encouraging and the feedback is constructive and positive - not something you get from self-taught courses.

My daughter, Crystal, has been taking piano lessons at Waterdown Music Academy for 5 years. Her teacher is cheerful, encouraging, dedicated and experienced. Crystal is passionate about playing the piano, thanks to her teacher. Even though we have moved out of Waterdown we still continue taking lessons at the Academy, regardless of the longer drive.

The teaching style at Waterdown Music Academy has been a key factor in our son’s progress. The method is age appropriate, fun and engaging. The fact that our son sees this progress has made it more appealing to continue his lessons. When he plays, people often ask "where does he go for lessons?" This shows how his ability to play well is linked to how well he is being taught.

Our son has been a happy member of the Waterdown Music Academy community for years. His instructor has been instrumental in encouraging him to embrace challenging pieces on the piano. The program and staff at the Academy provide more than grounding in musical theory... they inspire a love for music. We should know: our piano gets a workout because he enjoys playing EVERY day.

About Our Piano Lessons

Our qualified teachers teach all styles, from classical to pop to jazz. Whether you want to learn Beethoven or Elton John, we've got you covered… our teachers love to help students learn their favourite songs! Students will learn fundamentals such as reading music, technique and theory.

The main reason to choose Waterdown Music Academy for music lessons is that we treat every student as an individual. Whether your child is just getting started with music for the first time or you're picking up the piano as an adult, we provide lessons that fit your learning style, personality and musical preferences.

We have students simply playing for fun and the love of music, students studying Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum with the aim of earning academic credit, and plenty doing both! No matter your goal, we’ll get you there.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a discount for enrolling two or more of my children for lessons?

Yes! When you enrol two or more children from the same household for lessons, you'll receive beginner lesson books for FREE! Also, the registration fee will apply only to the first child.

  • What age can children start at?

Our private lessons are open to children ages 5 and up.

  • How often do we come for lessons?

Students come in once-a-week for a 30-minute lesson (with 60-minute lessons recommended for advanced students).

  • How long are we committed to lessons for? What if we want to stop?

Our academy doesn't make you sign any long-term contract. Our students are here because they love their lessons, not because they're locked in. Our lessons are month-to-month… take lessons for as long as you want!

If you need to withdraw from lessons, all you need to do is to let us know by the 15th of your last month.

  • What happens if we need to miss a lesson?

No problem! Just sign up for one of our FREE group makeup lessons.

  • Do you teach adults as well?

Yes! We have many adult students learning all instruments that we offer at our school.

Fun fact: a study shows that while 20% of children learn to play music, 70% of adults WISH they had learned… check this off of your bucket list!

  • Do we need to have an instrument at home?

It's important to own or rent an instrument of your own so that you can practice between lessons… but that doesn't mean that you have to buy an expensive instrument to get started!

Many of our students start lessons on a 61-key portable keyboard. We have these available for rent for $20/month. They are also easily purchased from any music store, and often even Costco or Best Buy.
